What? You thought I could throw
down 500 words on CD burners? I can't tell if that's a compliment
or
a put down. Just kidding. It's a put down. This site was started in 2007 by Mike Jasper so he could post photos, sound files and descriptions of gear he was selling from his recording studio, Deceptive Sound. A couple of years later, Jasper did a full-length review for Tape Op magazine on SD microphones -- pretty much every SD microphone he could get his hands on. Because he covered nearly 90 mics, the article needed to be trimmed to the bare essentials just to fit in the magazine, and even then it was too long. At the urging of Tape Op reviews editor Andy Hong, Jasper decided to post the expanded article on his own website, specifically here. He liked the freedom from space constraints so much that he started to post more articles and reviews. He then had the utter temerity to believe he might be able to get compensated for his time and costs by letting Google place ads on the site, so he wouldn't have to worry about the advertising content at all. And believe me... he doesn't worry about advertising. Not at all. He just worries about writing and content. He's also a little concerned that he's started to refer to himself in the third person. Not good. From here, who knows. I'd like to get other writers to contribute, but I want to pay them something, even if it's just a token payment. No one should write for free... ever. It's just not worth it. There's a name for people who work for free -- musicians. But write for free? I don't think so. Even if you do get some good quotes out of it. I'd also like to see an auction/classifieds section added to this site, because eBay clearly does not understand pro audio. But that's something for later on down the road. In the mean time, you can find some stuff here. And in the mean time, I'll keep writing. MJ (All content
